Is Your Child Reaching Their Motor Milestones? How Pediatric PT Helps.

Strong Start Pediatric Therapy brings expert, play-based therapy to you in Northern NJ.

As a parent, it’s completely normal to wonder, “Is my child on track?” Whether you’re concerned that your baby isn’t rolling yet, your toddler isn’t walking, or your child has a diagnosis like torticollis, hypotonia, cerebral palsy, or a genetic condition—pediatric physical therapy can help set them up for success.

I’m Melissa, a pediatric physical therapist and the owner of Strong Start Pediatric Therapy, a small woman-owned business rooted in my passion for helping children thrive. I specialize in supporting children from birth through early childhood—whether they need a little push to meet their milestones or more ongoing support due to a delay or diagnosis.

What Is Pediatric Physical Therapy?

Pediatric PT is all about helping children build the strength, coordination, and movement skills they need for everyday activities like rolling, sitting, crawling, walking, climbing, and jumping. Every session is designed to feel like play, with fun movement-based games and obstacle courses that meet each child right where they are developmentally.

I’m DMI Level C certified, which means I’m trained in Dynamic Movement Intervention—an innovative therapeutic technique designed to improve functional motor skills in children with motor delays or neurological diagnoses. DMI uses specific movement patterns and positions to stimulate the brain and nervous system, encouraging neuroplasticity and promoting progress toward developmental milestones like head control, sitting, crawling, and walking.

When Should You Reach Out?

If your pediatrician has ever called your child “lazy,” I’m here to say—children are not lazy. Children want to move. If they’re not meeting milestones, there’s usually a reason—and with the right support, they can make incredible progress. Some common reasons families reach out include:

● Baby not tolerating tummy time or not rolling, crawling, or sitting

● Toddler not walking yet or walking with an unusual gait pattern

● Concerns about strength, balance, or coordination

● Diagnoses like cerebral palsy, hypotonia, torticollis, genetic or neurologic conditions

You don’t need to wait for a referral or formal diagnosis—early support can make a big difference.

Why In-Home or Daycare Therapy?

Busy schedule? I get it. That’s why I bring physical therapy directly to your home or child’s daycare. This makes it more convenient for you and more comfortable for your child, leading to better outcomes in a familiar environment.
